Hello my friend, it's me Eric Wilkes. I'm just getting in from getting my hairs cut. Yes I said hairs, there's more than one! haha...Honestly I feel like a new person, it's the first time I cut it in about 7 months. I haven't had it that long since my mom forced me to have long hair (with a comb over I might add) up until 5th grade. I feel energized and refreshed so lets get goin...
Did you take the time this weekend to write down some of your goals? I certainly hope you did! I know 99% of you didn't but that's ok, take the time to do it now.
Over the next few days you'll understand the method to my madness as I take you on a visionary journey. Hang in there for about 3 more minutes. Today I want to talk to you about being effective versus efficient. Part of it deals with time management and I want you to throw it out the window ALL TOGETHER! Forget about it, remove it from your vocabulary, from this point forward it now longer exists! Here's why, because you shouldn't be trying to do MORE with each day. Making yourself "BUSY" is usually a way to put off things that are actually important or a way to keep from doing things that are uncomfortable, yet really matter. Ideally you should be prioritizing. Prioritizing your life, your goals, your hopes, your dreams, your actions, you get the picture. Enter:, Being Efficient vs. Being Effective. And here's the tricky part, learning how to increase your income and productivity in LESS time. You cannot be efficient with your time without being effective at the same time. IE: if your an outbound tele-sales rep for a large technology company who has to make so many calls per day, I would call it super efficient at calling on potential new clients yet piss poor effectiveness. What have you done to sort those clients out? You know sorting the good from the bad? Does that make sense? You would be far more effective is you had a way to get a response or pre-qualify those potential clients. At the end of the day, what you do is far more important than how you ultimately end up doing it. The average person spends 58 minutes per day on Facebook, there's ABSOLUTELY no rhyme or reason for this, you're wasting time when you could accomplish the same exact thing in 10 minutes or less (I just learned this myself). It's an ineffective and un-efficient use of time. So here's my challenge (and I'm doing it with you, I started today): First, I want you to select 4-5 goals that are the MOST important (prioritize) and simply put a STAR (*) next to them. Set it aside as we are going to come back to this later.
Next, I want you to start a daily activity Log. To do this, take a piece of paper and fold it 3 times (so it fits in your pocket) and I want you to write down 2-3 things you can do TODAY that will enhance your bottom line. And be sure you ONLY write 2-3 things, nothing MORE! Point being, anything more and you'll feel like you're on overload which leads you to unhappiness and a whole host of other things. Now pay close attention, this is important part through this whole process. By keeping your list short and putting a deadline on it (IE: by the end of today) will force you to prioritize and take ACTION. Lastly, be SURE you log what you are going to accomplish the next day on the night before. Don't wake up in the morning without a game plan. Constantly stay one-step ahead and keep moving forward. Here's my advice (for what it's worth), just ask yourself this each day, "Am I doing things that are productive or am I just filling the time with "STUFF" that doesn't really make a difference in my life?", for some this will prove to be harder than it sounds because society tells us to fill our day from 9-5 but I'm here to tell you IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT! Ask yourself "Am I being efficient and effective with my time?". If at anytime the answer is NO, adjust accordingly. You're smart, you'll figure out what I'm talking about very quickly if you follow through! I promise, it makes a huge difference, I can already tell you because my first day, I got MORE done in 3 hours than I normally would in 8 and it's the beginning! So if you will follow this, it WORKS! Try it and see the results for yourself. You'll quickly discover how you can spend more time doing what you want to do. Until next time... To YOUR success, Eric Wilkes 480.273.7944
